The birth of the new subsidary is an attempt by Air Canada to become competitive in the rapid-growing leisure travel market. Rouge is in partnership with Air Canada Vacations allowing it to strenghten Air Canada's extensive destination network. Intially, Air Canada Rouge would be utilizing Boeing 777 300ER planes and further down the track they would be using Boeing 787 Dreamliners onces orders are complete and the carrier takes delivery of the aircrafts. The inaugural flight will be from Montreal to Paris on the 11th July 2013.
So what about that other airline "Encore" from Westjet? Travellers would no doubt benefit from stiff competition between the two carriers. Pricing has yet to be determined, but Air Canada is introducing special introductory fares until Christmas Day 2013. If flying from Toronto, travellers can expect prices ranging anywhere from $279 for a 1-way ticket to Kingston, Jamaica and as high as $959 for a all round-trip to Venice, Italy. The prices are comparable and competitive, or slightly lesser than currently available air fares offered by other leisure carriers.
